WEILL CORNELL SENDS RESIDENTS TO BUGANDO

Weill Cornell and Weill Bugando have initiated a pilot program which began in January 2007. Residents and fellows from Weill Cornell rotate at Bugando on a monthly basis in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. The first group started in January and included a resident in Medicine and two residents in Pediatrics. They spent one month at the Bugando Medical Centre, working with the interns and registrars in their daily activities. They also served as clinical instructors for medical and postgraduate students.

Among the benefits of this program is the interchange between the doctors of information and techniques of patient care both in the United States and in Tanzania. Bugando interns and Registrars and the Weill Cornell doctors make rounds together and discuss the best and most modern ways to treat the patients. While Bugando doctors learn about some new treatments, Weill Cornell medical doctors learn about diseases that are not seen in their country but are prevalent in emerging nations. The visiting Weill Cornell doctors also participate in the internal medicine and pediatric clinics.

This program is funded by both Weill Cornell and the Touch Foundation.
